Ghanaian police at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region have commenced an investigation into the circumstances that led to the escape of three persons, and a fourth they shot dead, while on remand at Nsuta Police station, Ghana Web reported on Monday.
The four inmates asked for water to flush a blocked toilet and when the officer on duty came into their cell with the water they attempted to strangle him. The officer managed to grab his pistol and shoot one of the men but the three others escaped.
Police are coordinating efforts in the area to apprehend the escapees who were in jail for stealing cows and bunches of plantain.
The men were part of a group of seven men arrested by the police. The three others who did not escape will appear before a court this week.
