International travel is often perceived as a luxury for the wealthy. But this perception is being challenged by Capitec Bank. The bank is on a quest to help South Africans "bank better to live better" - and living better involves lots of travel and the opportunity to delve outside your comfort zone. It has partnered with Turkish Airlines in a bid to give South Africans access to affordable travel and to explore over 300 global destinations.
“In light of our long standing positioning of enabling our clients to bank better to live better, our goal is to open the door to a wide range of new experiences for our clients. That’s why we are offering Capitec accountholders from 8% up to 25% off international flights with Turkish Airlines,” says Francois Viviers, executive head of marketing and communications at Capitec. “This partnership is the perfect embodiment of our ethos. We are excited to offer our clients the opportunity to travel with discounted fares, allowing them the convenience of an adventure they’ll remember for the rest of their life at affordable prices.”
When it comes to affordability, he said some simple lifestyle adjustments could put the trip of a lifetime well within reach. “For instance, a recent Twitter poll found 33% of the 986 respondents spent between R500 and R1000 on entertainment a month. A further 16% spent between R1001 and R5000. By simply reducing monthly entertainment costs and saving the money, an overseas trip suddenly becomes attainable. The same could be said for takeaway coffees, shoes or late night takeaways.”
However, the cost of international travel is less prohibitive than some South Africans may believe. Capitec clients could, for instance, travel from Johannesburg to Croatia and back for less than R15k a head, or to London for less than R10k a head. A flight to Colombo in Sri Lanka, New York or Bangkok could also be secured for less than R15k.
In addition to receiving up to 25% off any Turkish Airlines flights, if a trip includes a stopover in the Turkish capital of Istanbul, the passengers receive a range of benefits, including a free tour of Istanbul if you have a six-hour layover or longer. Those travelling economy class receive a free night in a 4-star hotel in Istanbul and those in business class get two nights in a five-star hotel.
The offer is valid for flights booked between 26 August 2019 and 30 April 2020 for travel from 1 October 2019 to 21 May 2020. All bookings must be made through our dedicated Capitec Travelstart webpage, which you can find on the Capitec website, and paid for with a Capitec card. 10 Lucky passengers who book during the month of September also stand a chance to win access to the business class lounge in Istanbul, the biggest in the world.
In addition to the Turkish Airlines flight discount, another Live Better Benefit you qualify for is an extra R400 booking discount on your international flight from Travelstart. The offer is valid for existing and new Capitec clients.
