A Kenyan woman gang raped by a rioting mob, which was part of an opposition group welcoming National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga home, is still recovering at Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Kenya’s Daily Nation reports.
The woman was raped last Friday by five men as NASA supporters welcomed Odinga back following his 10-day tour of the US and Europe, where he called for international support against what he claimed were rigged August presidential elections. He did not participate in October’s rerun of the elections that were ordered by the Supreme Court.
On Monday the Supreme Court ruled against two petitions challenging the rerun and endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
Following the ruling riots broke out in Odinga strongholds while celebrations were held in areas where Kenyatta’s supporters reside.
During the riots property damage was caused by looting and included cars being set alight.
